Method Statement
For the VEB Series of Hot Asphalt Recyclers
Background
The VEB Hot Asphalt Recycler was originally designed and built to fill the requirement for an on-site, easily transportable, free standing asphalt “break-out” recycler due to the rising cost of new asphalt caused by the increasing shortage of natural bitumen.
Recycling Potential
Different from other asphalt “recycling” machines the VEB Series recycles 100% of break-out material up to 5 tonnes every mix depending on the VEB series.
Additional bitumen can be added if the original break-out no longer conforms to modern specifications.
The re-heat and re-mix cycle takes between 8 and 20 minutes this depends on the weather conditions. The Asphalt Recycler produces pre-set temperatures of between 100°C and 180°C. With loading and unloading the total process takes approximately 22-25 minutes. The process can also be used to produce new asphalt and coloured if required.
Benefits
The benefits of the process are numerous and include:
- Complete operator control of timing and temperature of the asphalt to be laid
- No raw material costs
- Reduction in transport costs to and from asphalt plant and landfill sites
- Avoidance of both Landfill Tax and the Aggregates Levy Tax
- “Householder” friendly in that sub-base is immediately replaced
- Can produce “coloured” asphalt by simple addition of dye during mixing
- Perfect for mixing plannings
- Overall a substantial reduction in costs compared to existing pathway maintenance methods e.g. the machines use only approximately 7 litres of red
- diesel per cycle
Specifications
The basic specifications of the machine are as follows however these may change due to our constant development of the VEB series:
- the machine can be supplied mobile or static
- powered by Deutz 3 cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engine
- all drives are hydraulically driven
- fired by diesel oil burner with high/low flame control and maximum temperature
- shut-down
- all electrics issued with Safety Certificates
- the recycled asphalt is discharged via a chute
- training always provided by qualified operators
The machine can be adapted for specific requests such as other makes of diesel engine.
