Control Measures

  • Traffic control shall be planned in association with the local authority and local police.

  • First aid, welfare and emergency procedures shall be assessed and put in place before work commences.

  • Safe pedestrian routes shall be planned and implemented and traffic control signs, lights and safety zones identified and implemented.

  • PPE shall be provided as specified by assessment and should include high visibility jackets, protection for eyes, hearing, breathing, feet, hands and head.

  • All personnel including visitors shall wear high visibility jackets and safety helmets.

  • Manufacturing maintenance and operating instructions shall be followed and defects reported at once.

  • Travel and operations on a gradient shall be controlled to ensure machine stability.

  • The hand brake shall applied when loading, tipping or when parked.

  • A banksman shall be used where the driver's vision is impaired or when operating in congested areas and always when reversing.

  • The feeder shall be stopped in the event of clearing blockages on the feed hopper.

  • Operators shall be over 18 years old and shall be trained by Associated Recycling Solutions LTD.

  • Operators shall stand clear of the machine whilst loading is in progress.

  • Operators shall ensure that there are no obstructions to raising the mixer drum.

  • Operators shall ensure that the drum is propped while maintenance is carried out beneath it.

  • Operators shall ensure that personnel are clear of the mixer drum before lowering.

  • At least one dry powder extinguisher will be readily available.
  • Operators shall be trained in the use of the fire fighting equipment, the action to be taken in the event of a fire, and the first aid procedure for bitumen burns.
